Sulphur Springs Tennis Does Well In District Tournament
  • PublishedMarch 30, 2023

It’s been an exciting week for the Sulphur Springs tennis team, as they competed in the district tournament Tuesday and Wednesday. “Everyone competed amazing,” coach Tony Martinez said.

While there were a ton of strong finishes all across the board Mykylie Meador and Trinity Luckett stole the show, taking first place and finishing as district champions in girls doubles. There were another pair of regional qualifiers as well, as Jessie Li took second place in girls singles, and the duo of Ella Sant and Ian Westlund took second place in mixed doubles.

Third place finishers included Malachi Negrete in boys singles, as well as Mika Petty and Mac McCoy in boys doubles. There were a number of fourth place finishes as well, including Brody Emmert and Stori Shropshire in mixed doubles, Oscar Guerro in boys singles and the duo of Kaylee Schumacher and Coral Perez in girls doubles.

On top of the Top-Four finishes, Sulphur Springs also had two consolation champions. Crawford Johnson and Justin Chen finished as consolation champions in boys doubles, while Kierstan McDonal was consolation champion in girls singles.

After months of preparation and work, the Sulphur Springs tennis team saw all of that payoff with a great district tournament. Regional qualifiers Jessie Li, Ella Sant, Ian Westlund, Mykylie Meador and Trynity Luckett will be back in action April 11 and 12 in Longview for Regionals!
