Wildcats Powerlifting Takes 6th At Regionals, Mitchell Qualifies For State
The Sulphur Springs Wildcats Powerlifting team compete in the Region 3 Div. 2 powerlifting meet recently, looking to cap their strong season off with another great meet. They were able to do exactly that, taking sixth place out of 25 teams and finishing with multiple medalists.
Matthew Mitchell had a great meet, taking first place in his weight class and qualifying for the state meet. He even set the new regional record in squat at 625, and would go on to bench 350 and deadlift 480 for a total of 1455.
Sulphur Springs had a few people qualify for alternates at the state competition, including Logan Lawrence, Abraham Banuelos, Cristobal Torres and Sean Dial. “These young men worked extremely hard this season and we are absolutely proud of how they represented Sulphur Springs,” Coach Page said.

4th place Logan Lowrance in the 114’s – 285 squat, 190 bench, 270 deadlift, 745 total and Alternate for state comp.
3rd place Abraham Banuelos in the 132’s – 355 squat, 220 bench, 380 deadlift, 955 total and Alternate for the state comp.
5th place Cristobal Torres in the 132’s – 355 squat, 225 bench, 365 deadlift, 945 total and Alternate for the state comp.
9th place Isaac Riley in the 132’s – 325 squat, 235 bench, 325 deadlift, 885 total
1st place Matthew Mitchell in the 181’s – 625 squat (new regional record), 350 bench, 480 deadlift, 1455 total, Qualified for state comp.
4th place Sean Dial in the 308’s – 610 squat, 360 bench, 490 deadlift, 1460 total and Alternate for state comp.
