The Sulphur Springs Wildcats regular season has come to a spectacular end, as they finish the regular season as Co-District Champions of District 13-4A. As a program who has seen a ton of success in recent years, and now in 4A, the expectations were high, though the Wildcats were sure not to disappoint.

The pre-district portion of the schedule set the tone for district play, as Sulphur Springs a number of bigger schools and talented teams, preparing themselves for the back part of the schedule. Though the Wildcats went 7-7-1, they felt ready for district.

After a close 1-0 to the very talented Celina team, the Wildcats opened district play on the road, at Pleasant Grove, needing penalty kicks but getting the win. Up next was their home debut in district play, and they did not disappoint the home crowd, winning in a dominating 10-0 blowout.

With the momentum of back-to-back wins behind them, the Wildcats were ready to face their rival Paris. While it was a close battle, Sulphur Springs walked away victorious, improving to 3-0.

What followed was a dominant run by the Wildcats, running over everybody in their path. The won each of their next four games, by a combined score of 16-3, and more importantly bringing their district record to 7-0.

Now it was time to face their rival Paris once again. What followed was another close battle which couldn’t be finished in regulation. Despite their best efforts, Paris had the upper hand this time and took control of the 1 seed in the district.

Sulphur Springs didn’t let themselves get down, however, as they bounced back with a big 6-0 win over Chapel Hill. They followed that with a 1-0 win over Pittsburg, bringing them to their final game of the regular season.

The regular season finale for Sulphur Springs was Tuesday, where they hosted North Lamar for their Senior Night. Needing one more win to clinch their spots as Co-District Champions, the Wildcats took care of business, winning 4-0.

The Wildcats will be the 2nd Seed from District 13-4A. Additional playoff information will be posted on Front Porch News as it is provided.
