Lady Eagles Soar Past Paris

The No. 7 ranked Como-Pickton Lady Eagles hit the road to face the Paris Lady Cats Monday, marking the second time the two teams have faced off against one another. In the first battle, the Lady Eagles had no trouble beating Paris, winning 13-3 and looking to have a similar outcome in the rematch.

Como-Pickton wasted no time setting the tone, scoring a run just two batters into the game, as Bella Romero scored after reaching on an error. In the bottom of the frame, Mattison Buster went to work, sitting down the side in order on strikeouts.

The top of the second was another big inning for Como-Pickton, as they were able to add another three runs. They had just two hits in the frame, but also drew a pair of walks, taking advantage of every baserunner possible.

The bottom of the frame saw another three strikeouts for Buster, though she did allow her first runner of the night, walking the second batter of the inning.

The lone run in the top of the third came from Addi Monk, who was able to make it a 5-0 ballgame. Monk hit a fly ball to right, reaching on an error and capitalizing on it, coming all the way in to score.

The dominate performance from Buster continued, once again striking out the side. Buster was also to sit down two of them swinging, while the other batter struck out looking.

The fourth inning was quiet, with neither team scoring a run. Buster added another pair of strikeouts to her box score, but also allowed her second walk of the night.

Things picked back up in the top of the fifth when Monk drove in another run after Gracie Thompson led the inning off with a double. Later in the frame another pair of runs came in to score on a sacrifice bunt and an error, putting the Lady Eagles ahead 8-0.

Buster’s night just continued to look more impressive as the game went on, as she went on to strike out the side in both the fifth and sixth innings. In that span she sat five of them down swinging and just one of them struck out looking.

In the seventh inning, despite the run rule no longer being in play, the Lady Eagles made sure they got their 10 runs in. The first one came in when Monk double to left, bringing in Sanay Diaz. Monk would later come in to score the final run of the game when Saylor Smith hit a sacrifice fly.

Now in the bottom of the seventh Buster needed just three more outs to complete her no-hitter. She got off to a hot start, once again striking out the first two batters.

One out away, Buster would allow her final base runner of the game, but once again coming via the walk. The runner would be caught stealing the next batter in a 0-2 count, giving the Lady Eagles the 10-0 win.

Buster did finish the game with a no-hitter, going the full seven innings and only allowing three base runners, all of which were walked. In those seven innings Buster struck out 17 batters.

Offensively the Lady Eagles were led by Thompson and Monk who each had multi-hit games. Monk and Hill also led the team in RBI, each driving in two runs.

Buster also got a hit of her own, as Como-Pickton was able to score all 10 runs on just seven hits as a team.

The win pushes their record to 17-3 on the season and marks their sixth win in a row.

In those six games haven’t allowed a single run, but have had no problem scoring runs of their own, outscoring their opponents 55-0.
