Sulphur Springs Lady Cats Take First District Championship
The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats soccer team came into the season with high expectations, as both people close to the program and outsiders saw a great season ahead for the Lady Cats. Since then, the Lady Cats have not only met but even exceeded all expectations and even winning their first district title in school history.
After a tough 1-3 start to the season, the Lady Cats answered back, going on a four-game winning streak and outscoring their opponents 25-1 over that frame. Since then they have been on fire, dominating almost every team who comes across their path.
With the team firing on all cylinders, it was finally time for district play. Sulphur Springs opened district play at home against Pleasant Grove. They didn’t let their home crow down, winning the game by a final score of 3-1.
After proving themselves at home, it was time for the Lady Cats to prove themselves on the road, going up against their rival Paris. They didn’t disappoint, scoring six goals and holding Paris to just one, grabbing a huge win to improve to 2-0.
Up next was a pair of home games for the Lady Cats, a chance for them to show off in front of their home fans. They did exactly that, beating Pittsburg and North Lamar by a combined score of 17-1.
Since then the games haven’t been quite as high scoring, but the wins have been just as dominant. Sulphur Springs has beaten Pleasant Grove 3-1 on the road, and they have shutout Paris and Pittsburg by combined scores of 10-0.
The Lady Cats have one district game left, but the district tittle has been clinched already. For the first time in school history, the Sulphur Springs Lady Cats Soccer Team are district champions.
Sulphur Springs has their final district game Tuesday on the road against North Lamar, a team they beat 8-1 in their first matchup. The game is set for 7 p.m.
