Lady Eagles Continue Winning Streak
  • PublishedDecember 21, 2022

The Como-Pickton Lady Eagles traveled to Miller Grove Monday, looking to continue their recent winning streak. The Lady Eagles have been red hot as of late, winning 12 of their first 16 games, including winning each of their first two district games.

Even though this wasn’t a district match for Como-Pickton they were still looking to dominate the game. They were able to open the game with an incredible opening frame, outscoring Miller Grove 19-4 to take full control of the game.

The game continued to go Como-Pickton’s way, as they had just as good of a second quarter. The Lady Eagles added another 17 points to their total, while just allowing three points, extending their lead to 36-7 at the end of the first half.

The Lady Eagles slowed things down a bit in the second half, making sure to get everybody on the team involved. With the game firmly in their grasp, they did not need to continue to score at the high rates they’d seen in the opening half.

Even with the scoring slowing down a bit, Como-Pickton never lost control of the game. They outscored Miller Grove 8-6 in the third quarter, before going on to win the game by a final score of 53-23.

Other scorers for Como-Pickton included Saie Wetzel, Bella Romero and Maud Poortveliet who each scored two points. The win pushes the Lady Eagles record to 13-4 on the season and extends their winning streak to three games.

Even more impressive than their three game winning streak, Como-Pickton is now winners in seven of their last eight games. They will look to keep their winning ways going, as they get ready to play in the Quitman Tournament Dec. 28 and Dec. 29.

Their first two games of the tournament will be against Quinlan Ford and Quitman. Game One against Quinlan Ford is set for 9 a.m. and then they will come back at 3 p.m. to face the host school Quitman.
