The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats hosted Cooper Friday, looking to extend their winning streak to three games. Both teams entered the game with solid records, as Sulphur Springs was 10-4, while Cooper was 11-7.

Both teams got off to a slow start offensively, which resulted in a low scoring first quarter. Despite not being able to find their rhythm, the Lady Cats scored five points in the final minute of the opening frame to take a 9-7 lead.

Sulphur Springs kept their momentum going into the second quarter, when they were able to quickly extend their lead to double-digits. In the final minute of the half senior point guard Addisyn Wall hit back-to-back three-pointers, pushing the lead to 27-13. Cooper was able to score once more before the buzzer, cutting Sulphur Springs’ lead to 27-15 at the end of the first half.

The second half opened very similarly to the first half, with a lowing scoring quarter to open it. Cooper was able to cut the Lady Cats’ lead to just seven points during the frame, forcing Sulphur Springs to call a timeout to slow down their run.

The timeout did exactly that, and the Lady Cats were able to put themselves back in solid position. By the end of the third quarter their lead was right back to double-digits at 37-24.

Sulphur Springs never took their foot off the gas, opening the frame on a quick 5-2 run, forcing Cooper to take another timeout with the score at 42-26. Cooper came out of the timeout on fire, scoring six straight points to cut the Sulphur Springs lead back to 10 points with just under five minutes to go.

It was sophomore Trinity Jefferson who was able to put an end to Cooper’s run, scoring on a layup after breaking Cooper’s press. From that point on the Lady Cats’ remained in complete control the rest of the way, winning the score by a final of 55-40.

Wall was the leading scorer for Sulphur Springs, finishing with 11 points. She also had five assists and shot an impressive 3-5 from the 3-point line.

Also scoring in double-digits was senior Kenzie Willis, scoring 10 points and also pulling in 10 rebounds for a double-double. Willis shot a solid 7-10 from the free throw line, while also dishing out a pair of assists.

Jefferson and freshman Rainey Johnson just missed double-digits, scoring nine points each. The pair also combined for 10 rebounds, with Johnson pulling in six and Jefferson pulling in four.

Other scorers included Kaylee Carter with eight points and Kyra Carter with four points. Kaylee Carter knocked down a pair of 3-pointers, while Kyra Carter had a pair of free throws.

The win pushes the Lady Cats’ record to 11-4 on the season and extends their current wining streak to three games. It also makes them a perfect 10-0 in games where they score 40 or more points.

Sulphur Springs is back in action Friday, when they hit the road to face Quinlan Ford, where they will look to pick up a fourth consecutive victory.
