Losing Weight while Counting Macros By Whitney Vaughan

Often times people wonder how quickly they can lose weight while counting macros.  Macros isn’t a fad diet that will help you shed 20 pounds in six weeks.  In fact, it’s not a fad diet at all. It’s a lifestyle change that will help you learn to look at foods as either a protein, fat or carb.  Macros will help you learn to balance your meals and keep them well rounded.  They will help you learn to have a healthy relationship with food because it doesn’t require you to eliminate certain food groups altogether.

How quickly you lose weight is mostly in your hands.  Your discipline to eat strictly to meet your macros or what’s on your meal plan plays a huge role in how quickly you start to see results and meet your goals.  Often that means planning your entire week of food ahead of time and even having them prepped, so you’re less tempted to grab something from a drive-thru.  It means learning to track and log your meals in a macro tracking app, but also taking the time to put the meals and snacks in the tracker. (For best results I encourage my clients to log their entire day of eating the night before because this helps to stay on track & takes the guessing out of what you’re going to eat during your busy day.)  Being satisfied with eating the same meals for a few days in a row will also help make tracking and meeting your macros each day easier.  The more consistent you are with meeting your macros on a daily basis, the quicker the results will come.  (I do encourage some of my clients to give themselves one cheat meal that they don’t track or log a week.  It gives you something to look forward to and some freedom to indulge every now & then.)

Exercise is not required to lose weight but definitely encouraged.  Any form of exercise is helpful, but I highly recommend some form of weight resistance training.  This type of exercise helps burn fat for a more extended period of time post-workout while also helping build lean muscle in place of burned fat.

Communication between you and your macro coach on a weekly basis is huge for success on your macro journey.  Your macro coach needs to know how well you’re adhering to your macros or meal plans, so communication and honesty are key. It’s the coaches job to monitor your caloric intake, your macro ratios & calorie expenditure.  These three things will change throughout your new health journey, and it’s your coaches job to make sure they’re working like they’re supposed to be to help you reap the results you’re looking for.  Your coach should also listen and help you navigate through any issues that may rise while working together then be able to help you find solutions to the issues through their experience, knowledge, or research.

We’re about to close out 2022, so you may be thinking about new health goals for 2023. Although diets may get you quick results, they’re not usually results that are sustainable.  Macros may be for you if you’re looking to build healthy habits and become your best self!  If you’re looking for someone you can build a trusting relationship with while working towards your health goals, I’m your girl.
