Get ready for hay bale decoration in 2022
  • PublishedSeptember 6, 2022

Celebrate Hopkins County’s agricultural past and present and get a little creative this fall festival by participating in the annual hay bale sculpture contest.

Individuals, families, businesses, schools, churches and group organizations such as 4H clubs and FFA chapters are encouraged to enter.

The hay bale sculpture contest has two categories: single bale category, for just one round bale with or without square bales, or multiple bale category, for more than one round bale with or without square bales.

Bales may be decorated in any way the entrant pleases, but should not be vulgar.

Entrants may apply any material to the bales including spray paint, although oil-based paint is not permitted for environmental reasons.

Additional hay and organic material is also permitted, such as loose hay, sticks or wood, cardboard and more.

Judging criteria takes into consideration visual appeal, construction, use of materials and creativity.

Contestants are encouraged to have their hay bales up for the entire month of October to help the county get in the fall spirit.

  • Hay bales must be constructed on or before Oct. 15.
  • Judging will take place on Oct. 18, and winners will be announced at 2 p.m. on Oct. 22 at the Civic Center gazebo.

To register, email the name of your business and the location of your bale to frontporchnews@chadsmedia.com or call 903-243-9210
