Lady Hornets pick up home victory Tuesday

The Miller Grove Lady Hornets hosted Rivercrest Tuesday, looking to get themselves closer to the .500 mark. Miller Grove opened their season last week with a number of games against bigger opponents, including Paris, Community, Mount Vernon, Sulphur Springs and Grand Saline.
For just the second time this season, Miller Grove was going up against an opponent who was 2A or lower. Their other such game came against Dodd City, who they beat 3-2 last Friday.
The Lady Hornets set the tone from the opening set, dominating Rivercrest the entire way. Miller Grove took the first set 25-14, before handling them again in the second set by a score of 25-13.
Looking to stave off being swept, Rivercrest was able to put up a better fight in the third set. Despite Rivercrest’s best effort, the Lady Hornets were still able to control the set, winning 25-17 and putting the game away in straight sets.
Jaci Roberson led the way offensively, putting up an impressive 19 kills. Roberson also had three blocks, two aces and one dig.

Setting things up was Celeste Robertson, who finished the game with 26 assists. Arean Wood had a strong showing as well, finishing with seven kills and one block.
Other standouts included Ava Sotelo, who had four kills, three blocks and one ace. Hannah Nails had a strong defensive showing, tallying seven digs.
Alaria Serrano had two kills and one dig, while Jamilyn Hensley and Anna Culbertson each had two digs, while Shaylee Stracener had one dig. The win improves Miller Grove’s record to 3-4, putting them in position to get back to the .500 mark in their next game.
It will be a busy weekend for the Lady Hornets, as they play in the North Hopkins tournament on Thursday and Saturday. They will also host Greenville Christian at 5:30 p.m. Friday.
