Early in my life I learned that there’s more to life than what meets the eye.  So much of what we do on this earth is to help create a perception that everything is great.  No worries here, mon.  We drive by their houses or see them at work or church and think how they have got it all together.  Often we learn later that things weren’t really as we willingly wanted to believe.

There are forces and powers out there that want to take our joy and have us focus only on the bad things in our lives.  They light on our shoulders and whisper in our ears that we need to do this or get that and we can guarantee our happiness.  We get it or do it and, guess what, it didn’t last very long.  The battery ran low.

I’ve repeated over the years about the power of gratefulness.  I’ve noted how the more grateful we are and acknowledging where it came from sets off the chain reaction.  You do something good for somebody.   Soon it comes back to you pressed down and running over.  A lady I know was at a ceremony for a relative where he passed out a rose to a number of women in his life.  She didn’t get one and felt a little disappointed.  The next day the person shows up with a bouquet of a dozen beautiful roses and apologized for running out earlier.  How about that for a blessing.

There is this unending supply of blessings stacked up in some heavenly warehouse waiting to be delivered.  We’ve heard about pay it forward over the years.  A lot of us have been blessed with an anonymous Santa picking up our tab at a restaurant or pulling up to the window at Mickey D’s and have the cashier say, “The car ahead of you got your bill.”

It’s really easy to let all the garbage in the world weigh you down.  You almost get into a hand to mouth mode with no place for any spiritual intervention.  My mama used to tell me to shake myself when I got into a rut.  The possibilities are everywhere.  I call it living with expectancy.

I believe it, and I’ve experienced it.  We can trudge on through this life on our own, or we can live each day knowing that something good could be coming our way.  What’s so funny about this is that it’s a lot about timing.  It’s not on our own time table.  Somebody wants to surprise us, make us laugh for joy, and maybe He gets a good chuckle too.  I think He has a good sense of humor.  When we live each day knowing this could be the day, it’s like the postman and Santa coming all rolled into one.  All we have to do is to acknowledge where  it came from and say thanks.
