Two weeks ago we began our journey, breaking down the Sulphur Springs Wildcats 2022 football schedule game-by-game. After many hours spent and over 5,000 words written, here we finally are at the finale of our series.

For those of you who have stayed with us the entire time, thank you. For anyone just tuning in or maybe missed a few of the parts along the way, we’ve got you covered with links below.

Today, we will be looking at the regular season finale for the 2022 Sulphur Springs Wildcats football season. Will they have what it takes to walk away with a win in their season finale?

Week 10 @ vs Anna (Senior Night)

Halloween has come and gone, the calendar has changed again, and we’re in the month of November. Colder weather is among us, and the Wildcats are at home for one final time, honoring their senior class and hoping to get one final regular season victory.

In it, they will be going up against an Anna Coyote team who is coming off the most wins in a season they have had in the Maxpreps era, which dates back to 2004. The Coyotes won seven games in 2021, though it wasn’t good enough to earn them a playoff berth.

The season started off strong for Anna, as they won their four non-district games by a combined score of 164-68. The Coyotes proceeded to go 3-3 in district play, finishing fifth in their district and missing the playoffs for the fourth season in-a-row.

A change in districts could be exactly what Anna needs to put an end to their four-year playoff drought. Offensively, the Coyotes do return a number of players, though they will be tasked with replacing their leading passer and receiver.

Quarterback Daniel McNair, who is now at West Texas A&M University, had a great senior season in 2021. The now Buffalo, threw for 2,764 yards and 23 touchdowns, while also picking up three touchdowns with his legs. He completed 59% of his passes and threw just 10 interceptions, giving him a QBR of 92.2.

They will also be losing receiver Malachi Brooks, who led the team receptions (59), receiving yards (765) and receiving touchdowns (7). That’s quite an ask to replace between the two of them, though the Coyotes should still be in good shape.

They will look to put a lot of trust in running back Jambres Dubar, who had an incredible junior season. Dubar rushed for 1,193 yards on just 169 carries, picking up 7.1 yards per rush and 119.3 yards per game.

The now senior, also had 13 rushing touchdowns, to go along with 236 receiving yards and three touchdowns on 29 catches.

His strong play has garnered him plenty of attention, as he has been recruited by Texas A&M and Northwestern, while receiving scholarship offers from Utah, Louisiana Tech, Incarnate Word, Illinois State, Houston Baptist, Abilene Christian and Boise State, where he is currently verbally committed to.

Not only will Anna be returning the Boise State commit, but they also return every single one of their receivers aside from Brooks. The returning pass catchers combined for 162 catches, 2,017 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns.

The combination of Dubar leading the offense with a veteran group of receivers will make life a lot easier for a new quarterback stepping in for the 2022 season.

Defensively, the Coyotes are led by a trio of juniors, who each had incredible sophomore seasons in 2021. Linebacker CJ Miller led the Coyotes defense in his sophomore campaign with 131 tackles, 13 of which for loss, as well as two sacks and four QB hurries.

Just behind him was Grayson Stewart, who had an equally impressive sophomore season. Stewart had 115 tackles and 17 tackles for loss.

In the secondary they will be led by Jamison Adams, who had four interceptions in 2021. The trio, of what will be juniors this year, look to lead Anna’s defense for another pair of years.

With all the returning talent from a seven-win team a year ago, the Anna Coyotes will be looking to snap their playoff drought and possibly even win the most games in a season in the Maxpreps era. The Wildcats will have a tough match on their hands, but with nine games under their belt and the excitement of Senior Night behind them, will Sulphur Springs be able to finish their regular season with a win?
