InstagramMore often than not, I forget to post on my Instagram page.  If I do think to post something, it sometimes seems sophomoric compared to the glamorous photos of the pretty people jet setting around the world that fill my feed. When I do work up the courage to make a social media post (be it Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, or TikTok), it is only because I tell myself that my family and friends won’t laugh at me. I thought I might try something different to try to get myself out of social media hibernation.  I have decided to make monthly posts that share what that month brings to my mind.  Some of the items or events listed are childhood memories and others are current day delights.June’s list could also be used as a challenge.  Instead of reading the list with passive thoughts, why not make it a to-do list?  Instead of thinking about lemonade, why not make a pitcher of cold, freshly squeezed lemonade?  Invite a neighbor over to share it with you!Or find your mom’s recipe for homemade peach ice cream and share it with family members while you share stories about your mom.  Make sure the next generation gets to sample those family recipes and hear the stories! How about hanging your white, cotton sheets on the line to dry, just like your grandmother used to do?  I loved the smell of sheets hung out to dry.  I even remember my grandmother bringing the sheets in and ironing them after she collected them from the clothesline.I may be out of elementary school, but wouldn’t it be fun to catch a firefly or two just for fun?  Or how about indulging in a nap on the porch?  That reminds me of spending the night out on a sleeping porch one time.  Honestly, I didn’t sleep much that night because I wasn’t used to the outdoor sounds of the night.  If the crickets and frogs would have turned the volume down a bit, I wouldn’t have complained.  But I now realize that those sounds are what made the night so special.Of course, some things listed are more nuisances than anything.  Growing up, I had mosquito bites all summer long.  No one else would get a mosquito bite, while I would be covered in them.  But that is still part of my childhood memories. What does June bring to mind for you?  Slumber parties?  Hay baling?  Summer jobs?  Stop for a few minutes, and just let your mind wander to the most fun things you did and enjoyed in June.  I bet you will have a warm feeling in your heart and a smile on your face!
