A Hopkins institution since 2017, CANHelp’s annual back-to-school fair helps kids of all ages with school readiness for the 2022-2023 year by providing educational materials, eye exams, hair cuts, and various health services.

This year, the back-to-school fair will take place Friday, August 5 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center.

After last year’s success, 2022 will also be an indoor-outdoor event, CANHelp noted.

Children who attend will enjoy games, prizes, and even a bounce castle and refreshments.

CANHelp is also soliciting vendors and sponsors for the event.

According to CANHelp, 60 to 70% of Hopkins families qualify as low income, and CANHelp seeks to relieve the financial burden of starting school for these families.

“The number of families that register to receive school supplies has increased significantly every year, and due to the ongoing effects of the pandemic, rising prices, and continued hardships families still face, we anticipate a great need for back-to-school assistance this year,” the group said.

In the previous year, CANHelp has collected $85,000 for goods and services to help those in need in Hopkins County and Yantis ISDs.
