Walk Through Texas History is a four-week program designed to help Texans establish the habit of regular physical activity while learning the rich history of Texas. Four teams participated in the event utilizing the new Texas Historical Commissioner route, covering 510 miles of the rich historical points in Texas.  We were one of the first counties to utilize this new route. Participants began logging miles on May 2.  The event ended on May 29.  With each historic marker reached, participants were able to read about the location and its importance in Texas history.  Steps were logged in their own neighborhood, track, workplace, or even indoors, all counting toward the goal of 510 miles per team. 

I’m proud to announce that all four teams exceeded the 510-mile goal.  As a matter of fact, the 32 individuals who took part in the event logged 2,455.4 miles.  The individual who logged the most miles was Max Martin, with a total of 203 miles.  Coming in second was Linda Hodge, with 164.7 miles, followed by Leticia Burnside with 130 miles. The four teams and team members/mileage included:
