The Como-Pickton Lady Eagles traveled to Grand Saline Wednesday for Game One in their best-of-three Regional Quarterfinals series against Union Grove.
The Lady Eagles were the road team and wasted no time setting the tone for the game. Bella Romero opened things up with a leadoff triple, immediately putting a runner in scoring position. Later in the inning, after an intentional walk to Mattison Buster, Allyssa Corona hit a two-out double, brining in both runs and giving Como-Pickton an early 2-0 lead. Corona was later able to come in and score on an error, pushing the lead to 3-0.
Como-Pickton added another run to their lead in the top of the second, when Romero hit a one-out double to bring in Maggie Brown. In the bottom of the frame, Buster racked up three strikeouts, putting her total at four through just two innings.

The offense slowed down for both teams until the bottom of the fourth when Union Grove brought in their first run of the night. Buster immediately answered back in the top of the fifth, hitting a solo home run to regain their four-run lead.
Buster was lights out on the mound for the rest of the way, allowing just one more hit in the game. Union Grove did get a pair of base runners in the bottom of the seventh, put the Lady Eagles put the game away on a groundout to Buster, winning the game by a final score of 5-1.
Romero and Morris led the way offensively, each racking up a pair of hits. Corona was 1-for-4 with two RBI, while Buster hit a solo home run in her only at-bat. She was walked in each of her three other plate appearances.
Buster had a great outing in the circle as well, going the full seven innings, allowing just one run on four hits. She struck out 11 batters and walked just one.
Game Two of the series will be back in Grand Saline at 6 p.m. Friday. Coverage of the game will be provided on Front Porch News.
