Heart of Hope marks ten year anniversary

Heart of Hope marks ten year anniversary
  • PublishedMay 12, 2022

Heart of Hope founders Steve and Pat Philips came to speak at the weekly Kiwanis meeting, held at the League Street Church of Christ at noon, on Wednesday to talk about their program and how they are helping the unplanned pregnancies in our area.

This year marks the ten year anniversary for Heart of Hope in Sulphur Springs.  They were founded in June 2012.  They started off in a two room office, with all their bills covered.  They had to move to a larger space a few years later and then in 2017  moved to their current location on Davis Street.  At a conference called Heart Beat International they won a $15,000 grant to improve their building. From the started their goal has been to help in unplanned pregnancy.  They use a majority of volunteers to run their clinic and always need more to help as client advocates and Baby Boutique volunteers.

All of their services are free for their clients.  Heart of Hope has a fundraiser every year and they have eight churches who help fund them on a monthly basis. Other churches donate at the  banquet and help provide baby items for the Baby Boutique.  Their annual fundraiser will be held again on October 4.  It will be a banquet, where they will have the keynote speaker, who spoke at their first ever fundraiser.
They currently offer the following services to their clients: pregnancy tests, sonograms, recovery programs and an earn while you learn program.  The ‘earn while you learn’ program allows clients to utilize a web-based video system and covers topics such as, parenting, prenatal and many others.  The clients can earn points to shop in the boutique. The clinic currently operates only twenty hours per week. Located at 407 S. Davis St, Sulphur Springs, TX  75482.  If you need to give them a call their number is 903-440-1665.  Be sure to check out their website at sshoh.com.  They encourage donations and volunteers to reach out if they are interested in helping at the clinic.  They give each new, positive pregnancy test a goodie bag with a 0-3 month onesies, that they have painted with their teal heart as a gift.  Plain white onesies are always a need.
