The No. 6 ranked Como-Pickton Lady Eagles traveled to Mount Vernon Thursday night to face Maud in the Bi-District round of the playoffs. The first two games of the best-of-three set were held, with the Lady Eagles looking to pick up a pair of wins and advance to the Area round.

Game One

Como-Pickton was the away team in game one, getting the opportunity to strike first. Bella Romero led things off for the Lady Eagles, reaching base on a six-pitch walk. Later in the frame, with two outs, Addi Monk was able to drive Romero in on a ball hit to left. With some help from a pair of errors on the play, Monk came in to score as well, giving Como-Pickton an early 2-0 lead.

Mattison Buster was on the mound for the Lady Eagles and a two-run lead was more than she needed. Buster retired the first six batters she faced, four of which were via the strikeout.

In the top of the third it was Buster who got things started, hitting a leadoff single to left. This kick started a huge inning for the Lady Eagles, as they went on to add another nine runs to their lead. In the frame Como-Pickton saw hits from Buster, Allyssa Corona, Maggie Brown, Sanay Diaz, Lauren Lewellen and Monk. Buster also had a second hit in the inning, a two-run homer to help push the lead to 11-0.

Buster continued to dominate on the mound, finishing out the five-inning shutout. In her five innings of work she allowed just one hit and one walk, while striking out 10.

Game Two

With one win under their belt and needing just one more to put the series away, Como-Pickton was able to carry their momentum into the second game. Buster stayed on the mound for Game Two and had a quick top of the first, in which she struck out two batters.

In the bottom of the frame she continued her impressive offensive performance, hitting another two-run shot to give her team a quick lead. Later in the frame Monk came in to score on a passed ball, after reaching base on a single, giving the Lady Eagles a 3-0 lead after one inning of action.

Como-Pickton added four more runs in the bottom of the second, one of which came on a two-out double from Lewellen. Her double started a two-out rally, which also included multiple runs scored on passed balls.

The Lady Eagles huge scoring output continued in the third inning, when they were able to plate another three runs. Now leading by 10 runs, Buster retired the last six batters she faced, finishing off yet another complete game.

This time around Buster allowed just two hits and issued no walks, while once again striking out 10 batters. In the series Como-Pickton outscored Maud 21-0, needing just two games to advance to the Area round of the playoffs.

The Lady Eagles will go up against Cross Rounds in the next round, with days and times of the games still yet to be determined. More information and coverage of the the series will be provided on Front Porch News when it is made available.
