Lions throw combined no-hitter in home win

The Saltillo Lions hosted Harts Bluff Monday, looking to pick up their fifth win of the season. Coming off a loss in their last match to North Hopkins, the Lions were looking to get back to .500 on the season.
Jacob Sexton took the mound for Saltillo and had a great day, throwing three shutout innings. In his three innings Sexton allowed just one walk and no hits, while striking out three.
The Lions offense got off to a great start as well, scoring a pair of runs in each of the first two innings. In the bottom of the third Saltillo took it up another notch, driving in nine runs to take a 13-run lead.
Colby McCoy came in to finish the game, throwing a pair of shutout innings. McCoy walked two batters, but didn’t allow a hit, finishing Saltillo’s combined no-hitter.

Saltillo scored on more run in the bottom of the fourth, pushing their lead to 14-0, before finishing the game in the top of the fifth.
Coy Collins was the leading hitter for Saltillo, going 3-for-3 with two RBI and a double. Jacob Sexton and Gunner Tarver were right behind hime each going 2-for-3. They each drove in three runs, while Tarver also hit a home run.
Grayson Gurley had a solid day at the plate, going 1-for-2 with a pair of runs batted in. Rowdy Speir was also 1-for-2 and drove in one run.
The win was the fifth of the season for Saltillo and pushes their record to 5-5 on the year. They will be back in action Friday, with a road match against Alba-Golden. The game starts at 4:30 p.m. and coverage of the game will be provided on Front Porch News.
