Bradford Johnson has been hired by Prairie View A&M University Cooperative Extension Program as an Agriculture Agent covering Hopkins and Red River Counties.

Mr. Johnson is a native of Northwest Ohio, where he was a 10-year 4-H member showing market lambs and market steers. He has a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from the University of Nebraska where he was a member of the livestock judging team, earning National Champion Sheep Judge honors, while also placing in the top-20 nationally.

Prior to earning his Master’s of Science Degree, he worked for a 1,500 cow ranch, headquartered in Lincoln, NE. Bradford’s MS in Animal Science is from Purdue University, where he coached the Livestock Judging Team for two years.

Johnson spent almost 10 years as a Cooperative Extension Agent in North Carolina, with responsibilities for youth and adult research-based livestock, dairy, and forages programming. He has coached and/or assisted with numerous champion livestock judging, livestock skillathon, dairy judging, dairy quiz bowl, and dairy skillathon teams, plus worked with extremely successful livestock exhibitors.

Bradford has also previously served as an Animal Science Instructor for colleges in Kentucky, New York, North Dakota, and Texas.

He has been judging livestock shows professionally for 28 years and has judged shows in 31 states, including serving as a sheep official for the National 4-H Livestock Judging Contest.

Raising beef cattle, sheep, and hogs have also been part of his life, with success at all levels of competition.

Johnson will be joining the A&M AgriLife staff and looks forward to working with Hopkins’ ‘very capable’ Dr. Mario Villarino and Johanna Hicks. Johnson’s office will also be housed at the Hopkins County Texas Agri-Life Extension, at 1200B West Houston Street in Sulphur Springs.
