Hopkins man victim of Hwy-19 accident

UPDATE MARCH 7, 12:04 p.m.- Officials have now identified the Hopkins County man killed in a two-car incident on Highway 19-South Saturday as 27-year-old Tyler Chester.

Wilma Lane, a 68-year-old Emory woman also involved in the accident, is being treated in hospital, according to the Department of Public Safety.

According to a DPS report, the vehicle driven by Chester was traveling the incorrect direction for an unknown reason in Hwy-19’s southbound lane when it was struck head-on by a vehicle driven by Lane.

Chester, who was not wearing his seatbelt, was killed on-site, according to DPS.

The crash will remain under investigation, with Texas Highway Patrol assisting.

MARCH 6, 11:50 a.m.- A 26-year-old Hopkins County man was killed in a two-car incident on Highway 19-South yesterday (March 5) at approximately 10:05 p.m.

Justice of the Peace pct. I BJ Teer made the pronouncement of death.
The Department of Public Service is currently investigating. They have not yet released the young man’s name.
There are no further details available at this time, but we will update if details become available.
An earlier report by police misidentified Chester’s age as 26, when it is, in fact, 27.
