Saltillo Lady Lions advance to Area round of playoffs

The Saltillo Lady Lions went up against the Miller Grove Lady Hornets Monday, in the Bi-District round of the playoffs. Both teams were looking to advance to the Area round, where they would take on the winner of Slidell and Bryson.
Saltillo got off to a strong start, playing a mixture of solid offense and strong defense. The Lady Lions held Miller Grove to just six points in the opening quarter, while scoring 13 points of their own.
The Lady Lions continued to score at the exact same pace in the second frame, though the Lady Hornets turned their scoring up a notch. Miller Grove was able to put up 12 points in the second quarter, but the Lady Lions still added one point to their lead.
Saltillo played a strong first half, but there best basketball was still ahead of them. The Lady Lions opened the second half with their best quarter of the night, where they were essentially able to put the game away with a 19-5 quarter.
With a huge lead entering the final frame, the Lady Lions never took their foot off the gas. The Lady Lions outscored Miller Grove 18-11 in the fourth quarter, winning the game by a final score of 63-34.

Allie Lane led the way for Saltillo, putting up a great performance. Lane scored 24 points for the Lady Lions, keeping them in control the entire way.
Also scoring in double-digits was Julianna Giles, as she has for most of the season. Giles was the second-leading scorer for Saltillo, putting up 15 points.
Other scorers for the Lady Lions were Maysen Pipkin with eight points, Yadhira Alonso with seven points, Gabby Ross with six pints and Ryleigh Redar with three points.
The win is the 20th of the season for Saltillo and advances them to the Area round of the playoffs. The Lady Lions will meet up with Slidell in the Area round, a team they have beaten in the playoffs in each of the last two seasons.
