A Cumby ISD high school student was struck yesterday morning while boarding the bus, according to the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office.

At approximately 6:30 a.m. on January 26, a school bus was loading passengers at Farm Road 275 and Interstate 30 when a driver allegedly passed the school bus and struck a Cumby high student.

The student was taken to nearby CHRISTUS-Mother Frances Hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries, HCSO Chief Deputy Tanner Crump stated.

The 17-year-old student is a senior at Cumby, Crump said. Crump expressed concern for students, and stated “it could have been a little kid.”

The Department of Public Safety is investigating the incident and is unsure if charges will be pursued, HCSO said.

No further updates are available at this time.
