A new year is here, and with it, spring is right around the corner. Spring sports are quickly approaching and last week Sulphur Springs released their 2022 baseball schedule.

The Wildcats will open the scrimmage portion of their schedule with a home exhibition against Sherman, Monday, Feb. 7. Their opening scrimmage is set for 6:30 p.m.

Sulphur Springs has another home scrimmage later that week, this time against Terrell, Friday, Feb. 11 at 6 p.m.

Looking to get as many reps in as possible, the Wildcats will travel to Bullard the following day, for their first road outing. Saturday, Feb. 12, Sulphur Springs will travel to Bullard for a 1 p.m. start.

Sulphur Springs has one more scrimmage, before opening up tournament play, this time against North Lamar. The Wildcats will once again be at home, giving their fans plenty of opportunities to see them in the early going. Their final home scrimmage against North Lamar is set to begin at 6 p.m.

The Wildcats then enter the preseason portion of their schedule, which is dominated with a number of tournaments. Tournaments will be the best opportunity for Sulphur Springs to get in a number of games, against a variety of different opponents.

Their first tournament is the weekend of Feb. 24-26, when they will compete in the Tyler Legacy Tournament. After that, Monday, Feb. 28, the Wildcats travel to North Lamar for one final regular preseason game at 6 p.m.

Over the next two weeks, the Wildcats will be back in tournament action, starting with the Wylie East Tournament the weekend of March 3-5. The following weekend, March 10-12, Sulphur Springs will compete in their final action before district play, the Royse City Tournament.

District Schedule

The Wildcats open district play with a pair of home games, starting Tuesday, March 15 against Mount Pleasant. Later that week, Friday, March 18, the Wildcats will host Texas High.

Tuesday, March 22, the Wildcats hit the road for the first time in district play to face Marshall. Friday, March 25, the Wildcats return home to face Pine Tree.

The team has their first bye the following Tuesday, before hitting the road Friday, April 1, to go up against Hallsville. Tuesday, April 5, the Wildcats return home to face Longview, before traveling to Mount Pleasant Friday, April 8.

Tuesday, April 12, the Wildcats will travel to Texas High, before returning home Thursday, April 14, to host Marshall, in their first and only Thursday game of the district season.

With just a few games left, The Wildcats travel to Pine Tree, Tuesday, April 19 and will have their final bye of the year that Friday. Entering their final week of the season, Sulphur Springs will host Hallsville, Tuesday, April 26, before traveling to Longview Friday, April 29, for their regular season finale.

All district games are currently scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. The Wildcats are looking to bounce back after an 11-15 season a year ago.

Despite their 11-15 record, Sulphur Springs went 7-5 in district play and just barely missed the playoffs. The Wildcats ended in a tree-way for third place in the district, tying with Texas High and Marshall. Unfortunately for the Wildcats, the tie breaker went against them, leaving them as the odd team out.

Sulphur Springs will be looking to earn their way back to the postseason this year. Stay tuned, as Front Porch News will provide regular game recaps and updates all season long.
