Despite a very strong season a year ago, the Lady Cats don’t enter the season ranked inside the Top-10 of the Texas Girls Coaches Association Pre-Season Poll. The Lady Cats return a number of huge contributors from last seasons Regional Semifinalists team, including junior Crimson Bryant who was named Co-MVP of the district a season ago.

Bryant won 21 games a year ago, as well as three no-hitter’s and even a perfect game in their playoff match against Lufkin. Bryant struck out 13 batters in five innings in the perfect game.

Sulphur Springs will also be returning third baseman Addison Caddell, who was named First Team All-District a year ago. Caddell was the cleanup hitter for the Lady Cats last year and played a huge role in their offense. Caddell has already signed with the University of Texas at Dallas to continue her career after high school.

The Lady Cats will return a pair of players who were named Second Team All-District last year as well, shortstop Parris Pickett and centerfielder Jadyn Harper. Pickett consistently provided production from the bottom of the order last year, including a huge two-hit game in their 9-2 playoff win over Lufkin in which she hit a home run and drove in three runs.

Harper was at the top of the order for Sulphur Springs last year, regularly hitting in either the leadoff or two-hole spots. Harper was able to hit for both contact and power, having a number of multi-hit games. She was also great when the team needed her most, hitting four home runs during district and in the playoffs.

The Lady Cats return a number of other players from their 28-5 team a year ago, and will be looking to make yet another deep run in the playoffs. Stay tuned to Front Porch News for regular coverage of the Lady Cats this season.
