Area ISDs close for Friday due to COVID-19 uptick

UPDATE 8:30 p.m.- Saltillo ISD will also be closed January 18-24. Tomorrow (Jan 14) is a regular school day for Saltillo
UPDATE 4:45 p.m.- SSISD will also be closed from January 14-18

UPDATE 3:43 p.m.- North Hopkins will also be closed from January 14-18.

Two county schools have announced intentions to halt class and extracurricular activities on January 14 due to an increase in the COVID-19 pandemic.

At approximately noon on Thursday, Cumby Independent School District announced their intention to close school on January 14. School will remain closed until January 18, and extracurricular activities will remain closed through January 17, and the school will be “thoroughly cleaned and disinfected” during the students’ absence. The school’s COVID-19 test site will also be closed, the school said.

At approximately 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Como-Pickton Consolidated Independent School district also announced their intention to close school on January 14. School will remain closed until January 18, and extracurricular activities will remain closed through January 17. Junior high sports will still compete on the evening of January 13, the school said.

Other area schools have experienced similar problems this week due to COVID-19. Rains ISD cancelled classes from January 12 to January 18. Nearby schools such as Rockwall ISD have not closed, but publicized on social media their need for substitute teachers.
