Lady Eagles take district opener

The Como-Pickton Lady Eagles traveled to Alba-Golden Friday, looking to kick their district schedule off with a win. Como-Pickton played well in the preseason, racking up a record of 14-7 before playing their district opener.
The Lady Eagles found themselves trailing in the early going, but a 3-pointer from Cali Morris got them right back on track. After trailing 11-7 entering the second quarter, Lauren Lewellen gave her team a huge jolt of momentum, picking off a steal and knocking down a 3-pointer to help put her team ahead 17-11.
Como-Pickton had a huge second quarter, allowing Alba-Golden to score just two points in the frame. The Lady Eagles added 17 points of their own, taking a 24-13 lead at the end of the first half.
With her team up big in the second half, Chelsey Osborne got a 3-pointer to fall to give her team a 19-point lead. Mattison Buster played great defense for the Lady Eagles, picking off multiple steals in the third quarter.

The scoring slowed down a bit in the fourth quarter for Como-Pickton but they built a big enough lead that they were able to cruise to a big 51-30 win. Addi Monk led the way for the Lady Eagles, finishing with a 15-point, 16-rebound double-double. Monk also had three assists and two steals.
Also finishing in double-digits for Como-Pickton was Kara Tifft, who had 11 points and four assists. Lewellen was right behind her with nine points, three assists, one rebound and one steal.
Buster had a strong all-around game, scoring seven points, while dishing out three assists and pulling in two rebounds. Osborne added six points, while Morris added three points. Maggie Brown had a strong contribution as well, dishing out three assists and grabbing three steals.
The win improves the Lady Eagles record to 15-7 and makes them 1-0 in district play.
