Lady Eagles improve to 14-7 with home win

The Como-Pickton Lady Eagles hosted East Texas Homeschool Tuesday, looking to pick up their 14th win of the season. The Lady Eagles entered the game looking to pick up a second win in a row, after back-to-back losses to Commerce and Hawkins.

Como-Pickton got off to a bit of a slow start, struggling to find a rhythm in their offense. Despite their low scoring frame, they entered the second frame trailing by just five points.

They were able to make it back in the second quarter, by doubling their point total. The Lady Eagles scored an impressive 18 points in the frame, tying things up at 25-25 at the end of the first half.

Things stayed very close in the second half, as the two teams matched each other every step of the way in the third quarter. The Lady Eagles were able to take a one point lead, scoring 10 points and allowing nine points in the frame.

Entering the final quarter in a one-point game, Como-Pickton had their best quarter of the night in the fourth. They scored a game-high 20 points and outscored their opponent by six points, taking a 55-48 win.

Chelsey Osborne was the leading scorer for the Lady Eagles, putting up 14 points. She trailed just East Texas Homeschool’s Jordan Parker who had 18 points on 20 attempts.

Behind Osborne were Kara Tifft and Mattison Buster who each had eight points. Tifft also had three steals and one assist, while Buster had 11 rebounds. 

Cali Morris and Addi Monk each played big roles, scoring seven points each. Both Morris and Monk had four rebounds and four assists as well, and the two combined for three steals.

Lauren Lewellen added six points, while Maggie Brown had four points. The win was the 14th of the season for Como-Pickton and gives them a 14-7 record on the year.

The Lady Eagles will look to pick up their 15th win of the season Friday in a road game against Como-Pickton. The junior varsity will go first at 5 p.m. with the varsity to follow. Coverage of the game will be provided on Front Porch News.
