The Lady Cats took a bit to get into a good rhythm this Thursday against Palestine, but managed to come out on top with a 3-2 win against a 4A team who is at the top of their district.

The Lady Cats put a goal in the back of the net first, from a corner kick delivered from Senior Vanessa Lara, that was finished off by a beautiful header from Sophomore Kylie Clarke.

Palestine answered the call with a goal of their own from a corner kick as well. Half time left the score 1-1.

The second half saw a change in goal keepers with Mia Jones starting. A few defensive slips and a missed catch by Jones brought the score to 2-1 for Palestine.

The Lady Cats were not idle after the second goal, maintaining possession of the ball and improving on their passing.  A missed pass was recovered by Emily Soto who sent it up the middle on a long pass to Katleyn Robinson for a breakaway goal.

The Lady Cats kept the pressure on and had another goal opportunity on a corner kick by Addison Jones, that was sent in by Emily Soto.

With players still out due to injuries the girls really stepped up to make the win happen. Emily Soto proved to be a good defensive player and offensive player when needed. Vanessa Lara did well at controlling the mid-field to get the passes connected to feet.  The season starts at the end of January and experiencing these 4A teams during the scrimmage period, will prove beneficial next year when the district changes.

The JV team continues to improve and will gain ground as the season continues. They closed out their game against Palestine in a 0-0 tie. “We still have some key players out due to injuries but I feel like the girls that were called upon did great. We were able to bring up some Jv players and give them playing time on varsity. This gives them experience and helps them grow as players. I was pleased with how we were able to comeback in the last minutes of the game. The girl’s fought to the very end and were able to get the win. Very proud of these girls,” said coach Aguayo.
