The Sulphur Springs Wildcats had a busy day Tuesday, as they played in a pair of games in the Allen In-n-Out Tournament. After winning their opening game Monday against Lake Travis, Sulphur Springs was looking to carry that momentum into Tuesday.

The Wildcats kicked things off with a 2 p.m. game against Rowlett. Sulphur Springs got off to a strong start, leading 25-18 at the end of the first frame.

The second quarter saw more of the same, as the Wildcats continued to score at a high rate. Never allowing Rowlett to cut too deep into their lead, the Wildcats went into the locker room ahead 47-35.

Sulphur Springs kept their strong play going in the second half, although Rowlett continued to fight. The Wildcats offense slowed down a bit in the third frame, but they kept a 61-54 lead going into the final quarter.

The Wildcats offense stalled in the opening minutes of the fourth and Rowlett was able to make it a two-point game, with Sulphur Springs holding on to a 62-60 lead. Sulphur Springs found the offense they needed, however, going on to win the game by a final score of 70-67.

Parker Whisenhunt was the leading scorer for the Wildcats, putting up an impressive 22-point game. He also had team-high’s in rebounds (9) and assists (5), helping lead his team to a three-point victory.

Caleb Alexander had a very strong game as well, finishing right behind him with 16 points. Alexander shot a very efficient 6-9 from the field and made two of his four 3-point attempts.

Also scoring in double-digits was Branson Lynn, who had 12 points. Cason Arrington was right behind him with nine points, while Kordrick Turner had seven points. Malachi Myles added three points of his own and Jackson Darrow had one point.

Later in the day Sulphur Springs took on No. 7 ranked Frisco Memorial. Playing a bit short-handed, the Wildcats knew they would have their work cutout for them against a very good Warriors team.

The Wildcats found themselves playing from behind early, as the Warriors opened the game on a 13-4 run. Sulphur Springs tried their best to slow them down, but fell behind 22-9 at the end of the first frame.

Turner gave his team some momentum, scoring on a bucket in the paint to kick off the second quarter. The Wildcats fed off the momentum, cutting the deficit to 29-19 midway through the frame. Unfortunately for them, that was as close as they would get in the half, as Frisco Memorial pushed their lead to 44-30 at the midway point.

Sulphur Springs fought hard in the second half, trying their best to chip away at the deficit. They were able to do so in the third quarter, but by the slimmest of margins, as they trailed 60-51 entering the final frame.

Despite their best efforts, they were never fully able to get back into it, as they went on to fall by a final score of 82-69. Sulphur Springs returned to Allen Wednesday to face Mesquite Horn. Coverage of the game will be provided on Front Porch News.
