The Sulphur Springs boys soccer team hosted Jacksonville Tuesday for one of their final scrimmages of the season. Sulphur Springs has gotten some good experience in their scrimmages so far, and will be looking to be firing on all cylinders once the games begin to count against their record.
After scoring just one goal in their last outing, Sulphur Springs doubled their production, getting a pair of goals to go. Angel Andino and Uriel Santacruz each scored one unassisted goal, though they fell by a final score of 4-2. “Defensive errors cost us and we’re still trying to learn the best fit for us,” head coach Alexi Upton said.
Neither the junior varsity or freshmen teams were able to get wins either, as they JV lost 3-0, while the freshmen team lost 3-1. Candelario Rodriguez had the lone goal for the freshmen team.

“[They] got lots of practice and learning to do,” Upton said. “Jacksonville was really good. Will be good competition next year at the 4A level.”
The Wildcats will get more action this weekend, as they host Wylie East Friday, before hosting their alumni game Saturday. Friday’s game against Wylie East will see the freshmen team beginning at 1 p.m. with the junior varsity and varsity to follow.
Saturday’s alumni game will see the junior varsity start at 5:30 p.m. with the varsity to follow at 7:15 p.m.
