The Sulphur Springs Wildcats returned to action Monday, kicking off the Allen In-n-Out Tournament with a game against the Lake Travis Cavaliers. Both teams entered the day with some momentum, as the two teams had a combined record of 30-7.

The Wildcats got off to a very strong start, opening things up with a 13-7 lead in the first few minutes. Sulphur Springs continued their strong play, adding another eight unanswered points to push the lead to 21-7 early in the second frame.

The Cavs didn’t allow the Wildcats to run away with things in the opening half however, as they answered back with a strong run of their own. Lake Travis went on a 13-7 run to cut the Wildcats lead to 28-20 entering the second half.

Kordrick Turner got the scoring started to open the second half, driving in the paint and scoring off the glass. A few minutes later Parker Whisenhunt was able to push the lead to 35-27, after throwing down a two-hand slam.

Entering the final quarter with a nine-point lead, Sulphur Springs never took their foot off the gas, continuing their strong play in the final frame. The Wildcats went on to score another 14 points in the quarter, winning the game by a final score of 54-45.

Whisenhunt was the leading scorer for the Wildcats, scoring 16 points on 50% shooting. He also had five rebounds and a team-high three steals in the nine-point win.

Turner and Caleb Alexander each finished in double-digits as well, scoring 14 points and 11 points respectively. Turner made six of his 10 attempts, while Alexander shot 40% from behind the 3-point line.

Other scorers for Sulphur Springs were Lynn who had seven points, and Cason Arrington and Malachi Myles who had had three points. The win bumps Sulphur Springs record to 16-5 on the year.
