The Sulphur Springs Wildcats hit the road last Tuesday to face the Mckinney North Bulldogs in scrimmage play. The Wildcats have played strong during the scrimmage portion of their schedule, looking to find their stride before the games begin to count against their record.

Alex Yanez scored the only goal for the Wildcats, thanks to an assist from Osvaldo Arellano. Despite some strong defense from Sulphur Springs, the lone goal wasn’t enough, as they fell by a final score of 3-1. “Varsity had three keeping errors that cost us bad,” head coach Alexi Upton said.

Neither the junior varsity or the freshman teams were able to find wins either, as they lost by scores of 2-0 and 7-0 respectively. “[They] played well and are just learning the ropes,” Upton said of the junior varsity and freshman teams. “Lot more to gain and learn, this was a real high-level club kid environment.”

Fortunately for the Wildcats the losses do not count against their record, though they will begin the preseason portion of their schedule soon when the games will count. Sulphur Springs returns to action with a pair of home scrimmages this week, hosting Jacksonville Tuesday and Wylie East Friday. In both games the varsity is set to begin at 4:30 p.m. following the freshman and junior varsity teams.
