Cumby’s Neely Hammond has gotten off to a great start to this season, and last week she was recognized for her strong play, being named Dave Campbell’s Miss Texas Basketball Player of the Week for Week Six of the season. Hammond earned the award for her great performance against Detroit.

Hammond had an excellent game, finishing with 35 points, six rebounds and four steals. Hammond had a standout game to go with it in the Lady Trojans 62-33 win over the Rivercrest Lady Rebels last Tuesday.

Hammond led the way, posting 30 points, as well as eight rebounds, four steals and four assists, almost outscoring the Lady Rebels by herself.

Also scoring in double-digits for Cumby was Lilly Campbell, who had 11 points. Campbell also had seven boards and a pair of steals in the 29-point blowout. Just behind her were Ashlyn Hudson and Azlyn Hornsby who had nine points and eight points respectively. Hudson also had six rebounds and three steals, while Hornsby had nine boards, five steals and a pair of blocks.

Cumby is back in action Tuesday, looking to keep their strong play going with a home game against the Honey Grove Lady Warriors. The Lady Trojans will then travel to Redwater Friday for a road game at 1:30 p.m.

Coverage of both games will be published on Front Porch News.
