At approximately 10 p.m. on December 15, Cumby Independent School district put out the following statement:

“Cumby ISD was made aware tonight of a possible situation regarding a threat to our school and others. After turning it over to authorities and further investigation, it was determined that there is no immediate threat and that this stems from a social media post sent to another school district last week that was deemed unfounded.

“There are many challenges going out to students on social media as well as hype surrounding posting threats on social media. Please know that Cumby ISD takes every report of this nature seriously and will do all that is necessary to ensure the safety and welfare of our students, faculty, and staff.

“We will also take the necessary steps to ensure those involved are responsible for their actions. Again, there is no immediate threat and school will resume at the regular time tomorrow. We will continue to put information on our website at www.cumbyisd.net, and here as necessary.

“If there is an immediate or perceived threat, an all call will be made. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Superintendent, Shelly Slaughter, at shelly.slaughter@cumbyisd.net or Cumby ISD Chief of Police, Tony Crouse, at tony.crouse@cumbyisd.net
