The Como-Pickton Lady Eagles got their weekend started Thursday, when they faced the Ferris Lady Yellowjackets for their first game in the Wills Point tournament. The Lady Eagles came into the weekend with a 10-0 record, looking to keep their undefeated season going.

Going up against a much bigger school, the Lady Eagles found themselves playing from behind early on. Como-Pickton was able to find some offense, but they couldn’t keep Ferris off the scoreboard, as they trailed 17-9 at the end of the first frame.

The rest of the game was much more evenly matched, starting with a second quarter in which neither had much of an advantage over the other. The two teams each scored nine points in the second frame and the Lady Eagles went into the locker room in danger of taking their first loss.

Needing to start catching up, Como-Pickton had their best quarter yet in the third, scoring 10 points and holding Ferris to nine points. The Lady Eagles turned things up another notch in the fourth quarter, breaking out for 15 points. They cut the deficit the best they could, but ultimately fell by a final score of 46-43.

Addi Monk once again led the way for the Lady Eagles, finishing with a team-high 14 points, as well as six rebounds and a pair of assists. Only Carly Quiroz and Lilli Garcia from Ferris scored more than Monk, scoring 16 points and 15 points respectively.

Behind Monk were Cali Morris and Chelsey Osborne, who each scored nine points. Morris also had three rebounds and two steals, while Osborne had one assist.

Mattison Buster had a strong outing for the Lady Eagles, posting eight points, nine rebounds and two assists. Also scoring for Como-Pickton were Lauren Lewellen and Bella Romero who each three points.

The loss drops Como-Pickton’s record to 10-1 to open the season. The Lady Eagles will get more chances to start another winning streak, with a pair of games Friday, one against Wills Point and one against Episcopal Academy of Dallas.

Coverage of Fridays’ games will be published on Front Porch News.
