The All-District awards for District 6-2A were announced this week, after Cooper’s playoff run came to an end last Friday. A number of Como-Pickton Eagles were recognized for their hard work and strong performances.

The superlative awards were dominated by Cooper and Celeste, as the two schools combined for seven of the eight superlative awards. Alba-Golden’s Jerry Skinner was the only player to take a superlative that wasn’t from Cooper or Celeste, as he was named Defensive Lineman of the Year.

The first Eagle to be recognized was senior Avelardo Villa, as he was named First Team All-District punter. Villa shined in a number of positions, but was most notably awarded for his punting.

A number of players from Como-Pickton were featured on the Second Team All-District list, starting with senior inside linebacker Tucker Rutledge. Rutledge was consistently one of the Eagles top tacklers this season.

Senior corner back Jermaine Gutierrez also made Second Team All-District, playing a big role in Como-Pickton’s secondary. Junior defensive end Hayden Potts and sophomore safety Kevin Hernandez were named Second Team All-District as well.

District honorable mentions included:

Senior, running back, Avelardo Villa

Junior, tight end & linebacker, Cash Wilton

Junior, offensive lineman, Klain Thomas

Sophomore, outside linebacker, Ian Rodgers

Como-Pickton opened their season by beating Simms Bowie on the road in their season opener. The Eagles set the tone, holding Bowie to single-digits, as they won by a final score of 20-8.

After a pair of losses the Eagles picked up their second win of the season, beating Tom Bean at a neutral territory. Como-Pickton shined both on offense and defense, blowing Tom bean out 31-6.

The Eagles were unable to pick up another win on the season, though they did play in a number of close games, finishing their season with a record of 2-8.
