The Como-Pickton Lady Eagles hit the road Tuesday, as they faced off against the Sulphur Bluff Lady Bears. The Lady Eagles entered the day with a record of 9-0, looking to pick up their 10th consecutive win of the season.

Como-Pickton found themselves in the hole early, allowing the Lady Bears to score the first seven points of the game. Chelsey Osborne got the offense started for the Lady Eagles with a 3-pointer, which promoted an 11-2 run for her team.

Bella Romero set the tone early in the second quarter, knocking down a 3-pointer to put her team ahead 16-9. On the following possession Kara Tifft came up with a steal and turned it into two points on the other end.

Later in the frame Cali Morris and Lauren Lewellen each drained a 3-pointer as well, as the Lady Eagles continued to create separation. Como-Pickton had their highest scoring quarter of the night in the second quarter, which helped them take a 28-17 lead at the half.

Neither team was able to create much offense in the third quarter, as they combined to score just 12 points in the frame. Sulphur Bluff mounted a strong comeback in the final frame, cutting the Lady Eagles’ lead to just 38-35.

With the Lady Bears needing just a 3-pointer to tie things up, Romero came up with another big steal, getting her team the ball back. The Lady Eagles held on to their lead and walked away with the 44-38 win.

Morris was the leading scorer for Como-Pickton, finishing with 11 points. She also had a pair of steals and a pair of rebounds. 

Also finishing in double-digits was Addi Monk who walked away with 10 points. Monk grabbed seven rebounds along the way and dished out a pair of assists.

Mattison Buster had a strong performance for Como-Pickton, scoring eight points and grabbing eight boards. Tifft stuffed the stat sheet as well, finishing with six points, four steals, three assists and two rebounds.

Osborne, Lewellen and Romero all had three points in the game. Romero also forced four steals and had two assists. 

The junior varsity also stayed undefeated on the season with a 42-14 win. Maggie Brown led the way with 14 points for the junior varsity, while Sanay Diaz was right behind her with 12 points. 

The win pushes the Lady Eagles varsity record to 10-4, while the junior varsity is now 4-0. Como-Pickton will be playing in the Will Point tournament this weekend. Coverage of the Lady Eagles weekend will be published on Front Porch News.
