The Como-Pickton Lady Eagles traveled to Rivercrest Tuesday, Nov. 23 for their final game before the Thanksgiving break. Entering the day with an 8-0 record, the Lady Eagles were hoping to improve to 9-0 to open the year.

Addi Monk and Mattison Buster set the tone immediately on the defensive side of the ball, each coming up with a steal before a single point was scored in the game. Cali Morris helped give her team an early lead, knocking down a corner 3-pointer to go ahead 5-2.

Later in the frame Kara Tifft kept the momentum going with a steal. She knocked down a 3-pointer of her own on the following possession, extending their lead to 12-2. 

With time winding down in the frame Tifft came up with another big shot, once again knocking down a 3-pointer. She nailed the shot with just a few seconds left on the clock, putting the Lady Eagles ahead 15-6 at the end of the first frame.

The second quarter saw the offense slow down a bit for the Lady Eagles, though they were still able to hold on to their lead. Despite just four points scored in the frame, Como-Pickton went into the locker room leading 19-12, still in firm position to hold on to their eight-game winning streak.

Chelsey Osborne got the scoring started in the second half, knocking down a 3-pointer from the top of the key. Monk followed with a 3-pointer of her own, followed by a steal on the other side of the floor, keeping her strong play going. 

With the Lady Eagles leading 25-15, they came out in a full court press, trying to apply pressure to Rivercrest. Lauren Lewellen came up with a steal which she turned into a layup, putting Como-Pickton up by 12 points.

They continued their strong play into the final frame, although they had a solid lead. The Lady Eagles outscored their opponent 11-5 in the final frame, as they won the game by a final score of 40-30.

Monk had a huge day for Como-Pickton, finishing with a double-double. She had team-high’s in points (14) and rebounds (12), as well as three assists and three steals.

Also finishing in double-digit points was Tifft who had 10 points. Tifft also had three assists, two steals and one rebound.

Next was Buster, who had six points and five rebounds. Morris have five points, three boards and three assists, while Osborne had three points, two rebounds and two steals. 

Lewellen had two points, one steal and a rebound, while Bella Romero had one assist and Rhayne Thomas had one rebound.

The win improves the Lady Eagles record to 9-0 to open the year. The junior varsity also won by a final score of 27-17, making them 3-0 to start the season. 

Como-Pickton resumes play tomorrow night with a trip to Sulphur Bluff. The junior varsity is set to begin at 5 p.m.
