The Saltillo Lady Lions hosted Alba-Golden Monday, looking to get one final game in before they take some time off. The Lady Lions had a busy weekend when they hosted their own tournament, and came out on the other side with a record of 5-4.

It was a low scoring affair to start, with just a total of nine points being scored between the two teams in the opening frame. The Lady Lions held Alba-Golden to just two points in the first quarter, leading 7-2 at eight minutes of action.

Saltillo started to find their offense in the second quarter, almost doubling their point total. Their defense continued to play strong, as they extended their lead to 19-7 at the end of the first half.

The Lady Lions opened the second half with their best frame of the night. They scored a game-high 15 points in the frame, while holding Alba-Golden to just six points. With the game all but out of reach heading into the final quarter, the Lady Lions cruised to an easy 45-19 victory.

“It’s always good to get a win before we go on break,” assistant coach Nick Boekhorst said. “So far we have exceeded our early season expectations and are looking forward to coming back from the break.”

Julianna Giles was the leading scorer for the Lady Lions, putting up an impressive 19-point outing. Also finishing in double-digits was Allie Lane who had 12 points.

Yadhira Alonso had a strong performance for Saltillo as well, putting up seven points. Gabby Ross had five points of her own, while Ryleigh Redar and Brianna Tawil each had one point.

The win improves the Lady Lions record to 6-4 to open the season. Saltillo will have a few days off and will return to action Tuesday, Nov. 30 when they travel to Van for a varsity only matchup. That game is set for 6:15 p.m.
