Saltillo’s junior high baseball team is riding a high halfway through their season, beating out Avery 9-6 to arrive at a 3-1 record so far.

The first inning saw one run for each school. However, Saltillo picked up momentum fast, packing in five runs in the second inning whereas Avery garnered none.

By that point, Avery never caught up to the confident Saltillo team. In the third inning, while Avery scored two runs, Saltillo outpaced them with three.

Even though Saltillo didn’t put up any in the fourth and Avery put up three, their fate was sealed.

“We hit the ball well and made them make plays,” said coach Bret Myers. “Our pitchers did just enough to keep them down. Overall [it was a] great game.”

Saltillo will play next on Monday, September 20 at 4 p.m. in Fruitvale.
