Sulphur Springs’ airport director Joey Baker was named airport manager of the year by the Texas Department of Transportation.

According to TxDOT, the award reflects the contributions of Baker to improve, sustain, enhance and develop the Sulphur Springs Municipal Airport at above ordinary standards.

Baker shows innovation, care and concern for both the airport and its patrons alike, according to a TxDOT press release.

City manager Marc Maxwell noted that of the 370 total airports in Texas, this honor was prestigious and unique.

“I can’t imagine an airport manager in all of Texas who is more deserving of this award,” Maxwell said.
