Sulphur Springs Police Department recently recovered over $26,000 that a local resident was scammed out of and they are warning the public to be on the watch out for scammers targeting the elderly.
SSPD said in a post, “We are taking several calls in reference to scams. Scammers are currently targeting the elderly with threats of arrest or promises of new vehicles or other items.”
The scammers are requesting the victims to ship money or preloaded debit cards. If you have family members that would potentially fall victim to these scams, make sure you take the proper precautions to make sure this doesn’t happen to them.
SSPD Special Crimes Unit was able to recover $26,400 for victims today out of $65,400 total involved on this date alone.
