Paris Man Arrested by Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office After Throwing Drugs Out Window During Attempted Traffic Stop

Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Paris man on Thursday after he allegedly threw marijuana and Xanax out of the window as an officer attempted a traffic stop.

Sgt. Steward initiated a traffic stop at approximately 11 pm and Devonta Qukashawn Brown, 26, continued traveling north bound on SH 19 North. During the pursuit, Brown allegedly threw an object which appeared to be a large pill bottle from the driver side of the vehicle and a second object was thrown from the passenger side of the vehicle.

The vehicle crossed a bridge on SH 19 North into Delta County before coming to rest. Brown was taken into custody without further incident.

Brown admitted to the objects thrown from the vehicle and described them as 28 grams of marijuana and approximately 30 Alprazolam (Xanax) pills.

Deputy Fisher cleared from the scene and travelled to the location of the objects and was able to successfully recover the items. He recovered a large pill bottle containing white rectangular pills and a shiny purse which contained marijuana inside.

The marijuana weighed 1.1 ounces including packaging and the Xanax weighed 8.47 grams including packaging.

Brown was transported to Hopkins County Jail. He is charged with Tampering with Physical Evidence, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Possession of Marijuana.
