On the morning of December 30th, Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office Investigators and Patrol Deputies received a Crime Stoppers tip stating a potential person of interest in recent car burglaries was Justin Carty. Investigators and Deputies located Carty at an apartment at Quail Ridge Apartments.

While speaking with him, information was obtained that he had hid a pistol in a refrigerator prior to answering the door. Consent to search the residence was given and a stolen pistol was located in the bottom drawer of the refrigerator.
Investigators learned the other two firearms were traded for marijuana to Cordryc Shropshire.

Contact was made with Shropshire at the Asturias Apartments. Shropshire stated Justin did trade him guns for marijuana and stated the guns were in the bedroom.
Investigators located a gun case on the top shelf of the bedroom closet. Inside the case was a 300 blackout, a Taurus Judge and a Sig Sauer P238. The 300 blackout and Taurus Judge were reported stolen on December 27th. The Sig Sauer P238 was confirmed stolen out of Hopkins County from 2011.
During the investigation, Carty stated he broke into multiple cars on Jill Lane as well.
Carty was booked into the Hopkins County Jail for three counts of theft of firearm and possession of a firearm by a felon.
Shropshire was booked into the jail for theft of a firearm.
