Sulphur Springs ISD “Strongly Encourages” Kindergarten-3rd Grade Students to Wear Mask

From Sulphur Springs ISD:
We have learned from our experiences after having positive Covid-19 cases in our district these first few days of school. Positive cases will require mandated contact tracing from state agencies.
We will not require, but strongly encourage, our K-3 students to wear masks to help reduce the spread of Covid-19. If a positive case should arise in your child’s class, contact tracing will begin. If your child has been wearing a mask, they will be less likely to be asked to isolate for 14 days. As you know, the mask is a barrier to help prevent respiratory droplets from traveling into the air and onto your child as he/she interacts with classmates and staff. While it is not possible to eliminate all risk of furthering the spread of COVID-19, we are committed to following the SSISD COVID-19 Mitigation Plan.

In the event of a COVID-positive case on campus, the campus will take the following steps:
- All areas that are heavily used by the individual with the lab-confirmed case will be closed off and disinfected.
- All teachers, staff, and families of all students in that school will be notified.
- The local health department will be notified.
Please contact your child’s campus for any questions/concerns. Thank you for your support and cooperation.
