Ephesians 6:17 “and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
It’s no big secret that in order to experience a successful and victorious Christian life you must give high priority to the Word of God. However, many a believer will spend countless hours reading, even memorizing the Word, and still not see breakthrough in several areas of their life. The resulting frustration can be disheartening to say the least. The breakdown usually occurs because people fail to realize that they’re trying to fight a battle with information as opposed to revelation. You see, you can read every word on the pages of your Bible over and over but until they move from simply being words on a page to being the sword that today’s verse refers to, they’ll have no effect. When properly translated, today’s scripture refers to a revealed word, not a written word. The sword of the Spirit is the revelation that the Holy Spirit imparts to you as you allow Him to interpret what you see on the page. This is intentional His part. He doesn’t want you to simply read about Him, He wants you to be in relationship with Him. Your relationship with the Author directly determines the amount and depth of revelation that you receive. For example, if you want to know all of the ins and outs of a car you’ll get a lot further by visiting with a mechanic rather than just popping the hood and staring at the motor. Next time you sit down to with the Word, invite the Holy Spirit to join you and start asking Him some questions. It may feel strange at first, but as you begin to receive fresh, life giving revelation from Him, you’ll find your time spent in the Word can be far more fruitful and beneficial than you ever thought possible. – Love and Blessings, Pastor Jeff
