John 6:14-15
14 When the people saw the sign that he had done, they said, “This is indeed the Prophet who is to come into the world!”15 Perceiving then that they were about to come and take him by force to make him king Jesus withdrew again to the mountain by himself.

Have you ever felt forced to be someone you are not? Depending upon where you live, who your parents are, and your social status, you will be expected to maintain a certain reputation and live up to often unfair standards. In most cases, none of those expectations have anything to do with hearing the voice of God and learning who you are in Him. If you feel like this is the case with you, then you’re in good company. Jesus Himself dealt with very same kind of pressure. In today’s scripture, as Jesus reputation for being able to teach and perform miracles grew, people began put certain expectancies upon Him according to what they wanted, not what God’s will for His life was. Contrary to what the people of Israel expected, Jesus whole purpose in coming to Earth was to lay down His life to bring about mankind’s redemption. They were waiting for a messiah who would come down from Heaven and physically conquer their oppressors and make Israel the dominate kingdom in the world like it once was. Jesus’ plan, however was to establish a Kingdom that included both Heaven and Earth and He would do so by serving, not conquering. Just like they were wanting Jesus to be someone He wasn’t then, people today treat Him much the same way. They get upset when He doesn’t come through in the way they want Him to or move they way they think He should in certain situations. What about you? Have you found yourself getting upset with God because He’s not being God like you think He should be? Are there areas in your life that you would like to see Him display His power in and you already know just how and when He should do it? If so, you can spare yourself a lot of frustration and disappointment if you’ll release those expectations and allow Him to be who He wants to be, not who your trying to force Him to be. He wants to move in your life. He wants to set you free. He wants you to become everything that He has built into your DNA to become…but He wants to do it His way. Freedom comes when you conform to Him, not when you try to make Him conform to you. – Love and Blessings, Pastor Jeff
