The February Northeast Texas Beef Improvement Organization’s (NETBIO) Pre-Conditioned Calf and Yearling Sale that was held at the Sulphur Springs Livestock Commission on Wednesday attracted a lot of interested buyers, sellers and visitors.

A total of 143 sellers delivered 2,825 head of calves and yearlings to the sale, and despite the inclement weather before the sale date, the cattle held up well under the muddy conditions, according to Sulphur Springs Livestock Commission co-owner David Fowler.

There was good demand and prices improved some for all weights as 29 buyers purchased all the cattle, but no purchases were made over the Internet. Fowler said the buyers in the seats at the market center kept Internet buyers knocked out the bidding all day. He added that some of the regular Internet buyers attended the sale in person.

“It was a good sale with lots of activity on cattle going to grass,” Fowler added. “Feeder cattle were going to the Texas Panhandle and into Kansas.

Fowler said that most of the 6-weight cattle were going back to graze and a lot of the cattle were destined for feed yard. Buyers paid an average of $816.81 per head for the cattle.

“NETBIO member-producers had some nice pre-conditioned cattle ready to sell, and there were a lot of good grazing cattle offered at this sale,” Fowler said. “We can always depend on them bringing quality cattle to the market,” he added.

The NETBIO Pre-Conditioned Stocker and Feeder Calf Sale gives producers a market to offer their pre-conditioned calves and yearlings in load lot quantities.

Fowler reminds NETBIO members that the next sale is less that 30 days away. Producers have already consigned more than 4,000 head of cattle to the sale, which will be held at the Sulphur Springs Livestock Auction on Wednesday, March 18, starting at 1 p.m.
