Genesis 13:14
The Lord said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him, “Lift up your eyes and look from the place where you are, northward and southward and eastward and westward.”
The first eleven words of today’s verse say a whole lot more than what most people realize. When you take the time to examine it more closely, you’ll see that God started speaking after Abram had separated form Lot. This speaks volumes about how having improper relationships and priorities in your life can hinder you from hearing the voice of God. Lot was Abram’s nephew and he was more of a hinderance to Abram’s walk with God than a help. When you choose to give people and pleasures more of a voice or influence upon your thoughts and decisions than the Lord, they will crowd out His voice. He will not compete for your attention or affection. You must make the conscious decision to put Him in the place of highest regard when it comes to who or what you allow to have influence in your life. Even though He’s has every right to demand that you give Him your everything, He chooses to let you make that choice. What are the ‘Lots’ in your life right now? Who or what is competing for the place that only God should be holding your heart? Is it friendships from the life you used to live apart from God? Maybe it’s an addiction or habit that has a grip that you can’t seem to shake free from? It could even be your family. While some things or people should be completely separated from, others may just need to given proper boundaries. For instance, that old high school friend may just need to be let go, while your spouse should be simply lowered on the priority list to just below God instead of above Him. When you make it point to give the Lord top priority in your life, the things that are not of Him, that take life from you rather than give it, will no longer hinder your growth as a believer. Start making a list of the ‘Lots’ in your life and ask the Holy Spirit to empower to put them in their proper place. As you do, the voice of the Lord will become clearer and stronger and He will enable you to move into the destiny He has waiting for you. – Love and Blessings, Pastor Jeff.
